Issues such as working with remote technology, managing various work schedules, and coordinating time zones are all part of leading a virtual team. And while each of these elements is vital to your success, its easy to get lost in the virtual aspects of managing your team, and thus lose sight of whats really most importantyour leadership. First and foremost you are a leader, and as a leader you are responsible for managing, directing and coaching each person to perform at the highest level. Now whether you do this from the same office building or not, is in some ways, an afterthought. Of course that doesnt mean leading a virtual team is easy; there are certainly some unique challenges involved.
